Flood Relief

Rockies Flood Relief

In mid-September, many areas of Colorado were ravaged by destructive flooding. The photos and stories coming from the flooded areas were difficult to see. As leaders in the community, the Colorado Rockies, along with the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets, each made a substantial donation to organizations that provide direct flood relief.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Rockies Owner/Chairman & CEO Dick Monfort said, "The images emerging from Colorado the past few days are a terrifying reminder of how quickly our communities can be overwhelmed. We are deeply saddened by the deaths and destruction caused by the horrific flood, and are so concerned for the residents of those communities, their families, their homes and their businesses."

On top of their sizeable donation to the American Red Cross, the Rockies also used game broadcasts to promote flood relief donations at Coors Field's donation areas.

While natural disasters like the 2013 Colorado Floods are devastating for our community, they also provide our community with an opportunity to band together in a time of need, and indeed, the rebuilding process has begun.

Success Stories

Hal O'Leary Award
Hal O'Leary Award

The Colorado Rockies Hal O'Leary Awards is an annual opportunity for the Rockies to honor outstanding individuals with a disability and those who advocate for them. Named after Mr. Hal O'Leary, the founder of the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), the Rockies have long maintained a strong working relationship with the NSCD, and this year's awards dinner was another special celebration.

All proceeds from the Hal O'Leary Awards dinner go to the Colorado Rockies Charities, whose mission is to assist a wide range of nonprofit organizations in the Denver Metro area that work directly in support of youth education, child abuse prevention and health. At the dinner, five different awards were presented to honor and highlight individuals who help out in different ways.

Congratulations to the 2013 winners: Dr. Jerry Clayton (Leadership Award), Lacey Henderson (Inspiration Award), Mike Shea (Hal O'Leary Award), Special Olympics of Colorado (Rockies Award) & John Vcelka (Dedication Award).

This year's winners will be featured in upcoming "High & Inside" newsletters, so stay tuned to learn more about them.

Todd Helton

After 17 years in purple pinstripes, Rockies first baseman Todd Helton has decided to step away from the game of baseball. Opting not to go the route of a season-long farewell tour like some players have done in recent years, Helton officially announced his retirement just days before the Rockies final homestand of the season.

With the timing of his announcement, Rockies fans had one last opportunity to come see the legend live at Coors Field and pay their respects to a player who has given so much to the state of Colorado. In what was dubbed #ToddsLastStand on social media, Helton savored every moment of his final nine home games, all culminating with a special celebration on Wednesday, September 25 at Coors Field, a day that was already scheduled as Todd Helton Bobblehead Day.

Most Rockies fans have no doubt seen the unforgettable images from Helton's final home game, but that evening, and many more Helton moments, can be relived by vising

Thank you and congratulations to Todd Helton for unwavering dedication to the Colorado Rockies organization, Rockies fans everywhere and the game of baseball.

Rockies Fantasy Camp for Kids

Little Big League

In what has become an annual highlight on the Rockies' community calendar, the Rockies and Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids partnered for the 2013 installment of Fantasy Camp for Kids on August 31 at Jason Jennings Adaptive Field in Lakewood, Colo. with a number of Rockies stars in attendance

Offering an opportunity for boys and girls with disabilities to enjoy the game of baseball and learn skills from Rockies players and coaches, the Rockies were the first Major League organization to partner with Baseball Fantasy Camp for Kids back in 2008.

This year, a strong traveling contingent of Rockies were on hand to spend time with the kids, including RHP Matt Belisle, LHP Jeff Francis, 1B Todd Helton, Bench Coach Tom Runnells and others. Fantasy Camp for Kids is always a rewarding experience for the Rockies and an unforgettable one for the kids who participate.

Corey Dickerson

Player Spotlight - Corey Dickerson

After making his debut on June 22 this season, outfielder Corey Dickerson has enjoyed a strong start in the Majors. In his first season seeing Major League time-69 games in 2013-Dickerson hit .263 with 23 extra-base hits: 13 doubles, five triples and five home runs. He also knocked in 17 RBI and scored 32 runs while playing all three outfield positions.

For the native of McComb, Miss., Dickerson's success at the plate and penchant for extra bases is nothing new and he adjusted well to life in the bigs. Dickerson climbed quickly through the Rockies system, hitting .321 in the Minors from 2010-2013. He was drafted twice by the Rockies-in the 29th round in 2009 and the 8th round in 2010-before deciding to sign with the organization after his second time drafted.
