Two pitchers get minor league deals
By Thomas Harding / MLB.com
The Colorado Rockies signed right-handed pitcher Jim Dougherty and left-hander Bryan Ward to minor-league contracts, Rockies player development director Bill Geivett said Saturday night.
Dougherty spent last season in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, and went 2-3 with a 4.63 ERA and four saves in 33 games at Triple-A Nashville, and 1-1 with a 5.06 ERA in seven games at Double-A Altoona.
Ward rejoined the Rockies organization after going 1-2 with a 4.97 ERA in six games at Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Dougherty and Ward will join the Rockies for minor-league camp. At least seven others others signed to minor-league contracts this winter have been invited to Major League camp. They are veteran utility man Greg Norton, catcher Bobby Estalella, right-handed pitcher Brad Clontz, infielder-outfielder Kit Pellow, catcher Mandy Romero, left-handed pitcher Chris Michalak and right-handed pitcher Matt Miller.
