Atkins has high aspirations
Third baseman now has 10-game hitting streak, wants more
LOS ANGELES -- Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins carried a nine-game hitting streak into Friday night's game against the Dodgers, and had hit .365 in his last 11 contests.
He extended the streak to 10 games with a single in the second inning.
Atkins was hitting .323 prior to Friday and led the team in home runs with five and RBIs with 16. But the scary part is Atkins doesn't believe he's truly hot yet.
"I'm still trying to find the good swing," Atkins said. "I'm getting good pitches to hit right now, and I'm not missing them.
"What I think is when I'm going well, it doesn't really matter what the pitcher throws, I believe I've got a pretty good chance to get a hit. I'm not there right now. I've just been getting pitches over the middle of the plate lately and I've been putting good swings on them. That works for a little while, but when they start pitching you tough you've still got to find a way to get your hit."
