Home opener set for April 10 vs. Phils
Rockies to play first '09 series on road against D-backs
DENVER -- The Rockies will open the 2009 season on the road against the D-backs on April 6, and their home opener is set for April 10 against the Phillies, Major League Baseball announced on Wednesday.
From the beginning, the Rockies will have to perform well on the road. The year starts with a three-game set with the D-backs and three at home against the Phillies. Then the Rockies have road sets against the Cubs, the Dodgers and the D-backs before returning to Coors Field to face the Dodgers on April 24.
The Rockies venture to the American League to face the Tigers on the road May 22-24. Interleague Play continues June 12 with three-game home sets against the Mariners (June 12-14) and the Rays (June 15-17). The Rockies also travel to meet the Angels (June 22-24) and the Athletics (June 26-28).
It's a schedule that'll have the Rockies home for several major holidays -- Mother's Day, May 10 against the Marlins; Memorial Day, May 25 against the Dodgers; July 4 against the D-backs; and Father's Day, June 21 against the Pirates. But they will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on the road against the Padres.
The final home game is Oct. 1 against the Brewers, and the regular year concludes with a three-game set against the Dodgers from Oct. 2-4.
