TEMPE, Ariz. -- Rockies outfielder Brad Hawpe left Friday afternoon's game with the Angels with a lacerated left pinkie finger, suffered in the first inning when the finger came in contact with an opponent's cleat while he was sliding into second base.

The injury, which required stitches, according to the Denver Post, will keep Hawpe from participating for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

"He will miss [the Classic], but will be fine for Opening Day," Hawpe's agent, Dan Horwits, told the Post on Friday night.

Team USA will begin its training camp in Clearwater, Fla., on Monday. Already, Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore has backed out because of a sore left groin. The Phillies' Shane Victorino will replace him.

The Rockies on Friday said that Hawpe is "day-to-day." Manager Clint Hurdle said he wasn't sure exactly how the injury happened, because Hawpe was taking himself out of the game before Hurdle had emerged from the dugout to see about him.
