Corpas hurls scoreless inning in Triple-A

Reliever feels no discomfort in ailing pitching elbow

07/09/09 9:15 PM ET

DENVER -- Right-handed reliever Manny Corpas began his rehab assignment Wednesday as he pitched a scoreless inning with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Corpas, who has been on the disabled list since June 20 with bone spurs in his pitching elbow, gave up a hit and a walk, but also had a strikeout. Rockies manager Jim Tracy said his performance was the least of his concerns.

"When he was finished, the report I got earlier this afternoon was that there were no ill-effects whatsoever," Tracy said. "No pitch that he threw did he feel any discomfort whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, the first test has been passed last night."

Tracy said Corpas will have a light catch session on Thursday and a long-toss session on Friday before throwing another inning on Saturday.
