Rockies prospect Rosario wins AFL honor

Backstop takes Player of the Week after hitting .545

11/09/09 1:44 PM EST

DENVER -- Rockies catching prospect Wilin Rosario hit two home runs in one game last week and earned Arizona Fall League Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Rosario, 20, homered twice and went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Scottsdale Scorpions on Thursday. For the week, he hit .545 (6-for-11) with three home runs, four RBIs, a stolen base and six runs scored.

Rosario finished the week riding a six-game hitting streak.

In 2009, Rosario hit .266 with four home runs and 58 RBIs at Class A Advanced Modesto. He had turned hot in the second half of the year but missed the final month with a wrist injury. Rosario hit .316 at Rookie-level Casper in 2008 and earned a non-roster invitation to 2009 Major League Spring Training.

Nationals prospect Stephen Strasburg, the No. 1 choice in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, was chosen AFL Pitcher of the Week.
