Rockies prospect Belen suspended
Fifty-game penalty effective at beginning of season
The Commissioner's Office announced Tuesday that Colorado pitching prospect Jose Belen has received a 50-game suspension for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Belen, a member of Colorado's entry in the Dominican Summer League, tested positive for metabolites of Methandienone, a performance-enhancing substitute. The right-hander's suspension will be effective at the start of the 2010 season.
