Rockies battery to face off in Futures Game
Friedrich to pitch for U.S; Rosario to catch for World squad
DENVER -- Left-handed pitcher Christian Friedrich and catcher Wilin Rosario are a formidable battery combination for the Rockies' Double-A affiliate in Tulsa, but they'll be on opposite sides in the 12th annual XM All-Star Futures Game during All-Star weekend in Anaheim.
Friedrich, who turns 23 on July 8 and was the Rockies' top Draft pick in 2008 out of Eastern Kentucky, will pitch for the U.S. team. Rosario, 21, is on the roster of the World squad. The U.S. vs. World game will be July 11 at 5 p.m. MT at Angel Stadium.
The 12th annual Futures Game can be seen live on MLB.TV, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on MLB.com's Gameday. In addition, XM Radio will broadcast play-by-play coverage of the event live on XM 175. MLB.com will also provide complete coverage before, during and after the game.
Friedrich was ranked 23rd on the MLB.com Top 50 Prospect list going into this season. After impressing the Rockies' staff during a brief Spring Training stint, Friedrich has gone 0-5 with a 4.58 ERA in 10 starts for Tulsa. He has 45 strikeouts against 20 walks.
Rosario completed his first full Minor League season in 2009, and was a standout performer in the Arizona Fall League. This year, he was the youngest player at Rockies Major League camp. Rosario is hitting .264 with eight home runs and 23 RBIs at Tulsa.
