Bethancourt, Surprise cruise to victory
Braves catching prospect plates three for first-place Saguaros
Christian Bethancourt has begun to put a rocky regular season behind him.
Bethancourt was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs to lead Surprise to an 11-4 rout of Salt River on Tuesday in Arizona Fall League action.
The Braves' No. 4 prospect erased a 1-0 deficit with a two-run double in the fourth inning for the Saguaros. Bethancourt, who scored twice, also singled home a run in the seventh.
The 20-year-old catcher struggled offensively this season, batting .289 with five homers and 53 RBIs in 99 games between Class A Rome and Class A Advanced Lynchburg. Bethancourt posted a .689 OPS, smacking 24 extra-base hits.
In three AFL games, the Panamanian backstop is batting .500 with hits in each game.
Rangers prospect Leury Garcia had three hits and drove in two runs for the Saguaros. Royals prospect Wil Myers, MLB.com's No. 15 prospect, was 3-for-6 with two RBIs and fellow Kansas City farmhand Anthony Seratelli scored twice.
Sean Gilmartin (Braves) struck out five and gave up two runs on three hits over four innings to earn his first win of the fall campaign.
Alex Castellanos (Dodgers) went deep for the third time in the AFL, finishing 3-for-3 with three runs scored for the Rafters.
Dodgers farmhand Stephen Fife took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits and striking out six over 3 2/3 innings.
