DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Carlos Torres from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Torres (#59) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s Rockies game against Atlanta.
Torres, 29, will be making his first appearance on a Major League roster since finishing the 2010 season with the Chicago White Sox. Torres began the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs where he went 2-1 with a 2.88 ERA (25.0 ip, 8 er), 11 walks, 25 strikeouts and an opponent average of .234 in five starts for the Sky Sox. In 13 career Major League appearances, six starts, the California native has a 1-3 record with a 6.86 ERA (42.0 ip, 32 er). Torres was signed as a minor league free agent on January 11, 2012 and was a non-roster invite to Major League Spring Training, where he went 1-0 with a 7.88 ERA (8.0 ip, 7 er), three walks and 10 strikeouts.
The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
