NEW YORK -- The Tigers aren't shaking it up for the American League Championship Series.
The roster Detroit takes into Game 1 against the Yankees on Saturday is the same it won the AL Division Series against Oakland with in five games. That means reliever Brayan Villarreal (50 games) and outfielder Brennan Boesch (132 games) both remain inactive.
"I don't think it was a tough decision," manager Jim Leyland said before the Division Series. "I think it was a sentimental decision. From that standpoint, it was tough, because Boesch has been here. But if you look at the way we've been playing lately -- and we have been pretty successful -- he's not been playing. [Quintin] Berry's been playing, and [Avisail] Garcia has been playing when they pitch a lefty.
"From that standpoint, it really wasn't a tough decision, really a common-sense decision. But it was a tough decision because Boesch has been here all year. He's a big part of our team."
Detroit is carrying 11 pitchers, six infielders, six outfielders and two catchers. Saturday's game is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium.
