Rockies roster moves for Saturday
Smith and Kim designated for assignment
DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced the following roster moves after tonight's game:
· RHP Sun-Woo Kim designated for assignment.
· RHP Scott Dohmann (#47) recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
· INF Jason Smith designated for assignment.
· INF Omar Quintanilla (#6) recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Dohmann will be in his second stint with the Rockies after being optioned on May 23. He has no record with a 4.76 ERA (11 1/3, 6 ER) in 13 relief appearances with Colorado this season. He has made 3 appearances with the Sky Sox since being optioned, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts.
Quintanilla, 24, will be looking to make his first Major League appearance in 2006 after spending the entire season with Colorado Springs. He has batted .286 with 12 doubles, 2 home runs, and 9 RBI in 50 games for the Sky Sox. Beginning April 29, Quintanilla has hit .362 (38-for-105) over his last 28 games. He has played mostly at shortstop, but has also played one game at second base. Quintanilla made his Major League debut with the Rockies in 2005, batting .219 in 39 games. He committed just one error over 151 total chances in the Majors at shortstop and second base last season.
Sun-Woo Kim has posted no record with a 19.29 ERA (7.0 IP, 15 ER) in 6 relief appearances for Colorado this season. Opponents have batted .500 (17-for-34) against S. Kim as he issued 8 walks against 4 strikeouts.
Smith has hit .267 with 3 home runs and 10 RBI in 32 games for the Rockies. A member of the Opening Day roster, all 3 of his home runs and 7 of his 10 RBIs came during a 3-game series from April 7-9 at San Diego.
The Rockies have 10 days to trade, release or outright both Sun-Woo Kim and Smith to the Minor Leagues.
