Rockies acquire RHP Ramon Ortiz from Minnesota in exchange for infielder Matt Macri

DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced before tonight's game that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Ramon Ortiz from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for infielder Matt Macri.
Ortiz, 34, has gone 4-4 with a 5.14 ERA (91.0 ip, 52 er) in 28 games/10 starts this season for the Twins. He began the season as a starter, going 3-4 with a 5.75 ERA (56.1 ip, 36 er) in 10 starts. He was moved to the bullpen following his start on May 26 vs. Toronto and has spent the remainder of the season in Minnesota's bullpen, compiling a 1-0 record with a 4.15 ERA (34.2 ip, 16 er) in 18 appearances. He made his first relief appearance since October 1, 2004 at Oakland while pitching for the Angels, on May 29 vs. Chicago-AL. He won 16 games for the Angles in 2003 and earned 15 wins for the Angels in 2002. Ortiz has gone 83-80 with a 4.87 ERA (1346.2 ip, 729 er) over 248 games/210 starts in his major league career with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (1999-2004), Cincinnati (2005), Washington (2006) and Minnesota (2007).
Macri, 25, has split the season between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Colorado Springs. He combined to hit .310 (88-for-284) with 12 home runs and 37 RBI in 82 games between the two clubs. Macri was just transferred from Tulsa to Colorado Springs on Sunday, August 12 and made his first career appearance at the Triple-A level that day, appearing as a pinch-hitter and going 1-for-1. Macri was selected by the Rockies in the 5th round of the 2004 June draft and has batted .285 (289-for-1014) in 4 seasons in his minor league career.
Ortiz is scheduled to report to the Rockies on Friday, August 17 when the club is in Los Angeles to play the Dodgers.
