Game briefly delayed as lights go out
Computer glitch at Coors Field in top of the second inning
By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com
The game was delayed at 7:56 p.m. MT because of a computer malfunction, the Rockies said. Once the computer was rebooted, the game resumed at 8:10, after a 14-minute delay.
With Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez prepared to make a 1-0 offering to the Phillies' Shane Victorino, the stadium lights suddenly dimmed to dark. After a few seconds of total darkness, some emergency lights flashed on as the problem was being addressed. The stadium sound system blasted rock music, beginning with Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark."
The umpires gathered at home plate as security lined the field, and the players headed into the dugouts.
The Rockies are leading the best-of-five series, 2-0, and Jimenez worked a scoreless first inning. Victorino was leading off the second.
After play resumed, Jimenez retired Victorino and the next two Phillies in order.
