Rockies' Vizcaino arrested for DUI

DENVER -- Rockies pitcher Luis Vizcaino was arrested early Monday in Tampa, Fla., and charged with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence. He has been released on $500 bond, according to the Hillsboro County Jail Web site.

The Tampa Tribune, citing an arrest affidavit, reported that the red Cadillac sedan Vizcaino was driving was traveling 71 mph in a 45-mph zone. When stopped, police said in the report, Vizcaino, 34, of St. Petersburg, had glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol. Police said his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit of 0.08, the Tribune reported.

The Rockies issued a statement Monday morning:

"Our organization was extremely disappointed to learn of the arrest of Luis Vizcaino for allegedly driving under the influence early Monday in Florida. We are continuing to monitor the situation and have been in contact with Luis and his representatives. We understand that they are working through the issues with local authorities and that Luis clearly understands the seriousness of the situation."

Vizcaino went 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA in 43 appearances for the Rockies in 2008, in the first year of a two-year, $7.5 million contract.
