Rockies sign Jacobs to Minor League deal

The Rockies have signed Mike Jacobs to a Minor League deal, the Denver Post's Troy Renck reported on Saturday.

The 30-year-old first baseman will receive an invite to big league Spring Training.

Jacobs went 5-for-24 with one home run in seven big league games for the Mets in 2010. He also spent time with the Mets' (Buffalo) and Blue Jays' (Las Vegas) Triple-A clubs last season, hitting .273 with 21 homers in 120 games.

Jacobs' best season came in 2008 with the Marlins, when he set career highs in home runs (32) and games played (141). He strikes out plenty and doesn't hit for a high average, but he does have pop.
