Rockies prospect Parker suffers broken ribs
By Sunil Joshi / MLB.com
Parker, an outfielder and first baseman on the baseball diamond who was a first-round selection in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, signed with the Rockies in mid-August for a $1.4 million signing bonus with stiff financial penalties if he plays football after this season.
Parker completed 11 of 17 passes against South Florida prior to getting hurt, but he appeared to injure the ribs on a play near the goal line.
The 21-year-old threw 12 touchdowns to 10 interceptions in 2010 after throwing 20 touchdowns last season. He also played for three seasons on the Clemson baseball team, hitting 46 home runs -- 20 this season -- to go with a .344 average.
