Taveras' fate appears tied to Stewart

TULSA, Okla. -- Third baseman Ian Stewart did not play in the Rockies' 5-3 loss to the Tulsa Drillers on Wednesday in the exhibition-season finale. But will he be ready for Opening Day on Friday?

"We'll see," Tracy said.

Tracy pointed out that Stewart, who has been battling left hamstring cramps after missing the first half of the Cactus League with a right knee sprain, socked a pair of homers Wednesday against the Giants' Triple-A Fresno affiliate.

Outfielder Willy Taveras' roster possibility may directly depend on whether Stewart is a go.

"We had a conversation with Willy," manager Jim Tracy said. "It all depends on Stewart's status."

Taveras replaced Dexter Fowler in center field on Wednesday and went 0-for-1.

Morales, Pagnozzi take final shots

TULSA, Okla. -- The candidates for the Rockies' reserve-catcher role got a final chance to state their respective cases in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to the Tulsa Drillers.

Jose Morales took over for Chris Iannetta defensively in the sixth inning, and Matt Pagnozzi went behind the plate in the eighth. Pagnozzi went 1-for-2 and Morales went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
