Prospect Pacheco a new 'net celebrity
By Thomas Harding / MLB.com
The eye-popping nature of the homer -- Pacheco's bat shattered, with the big part flying toward the dugout on the third-base side -- has amazed at least 1.6 million Internet viewers.
As of Tuesday morning, the video had received that many hits on YouTube, on the Sky Sox's channel.
The homer, off Salt Lake right-handed pitcher Jerome Williams, flew over the wall in dead-center, 410 feet from home plate, giving the Sky Sox a 6-3 lead. It was Pacheco's second home run of the season. He is hitting .279 with 31 RBIs and a .384 slugging percentage.
Pacheco, 25, was the Rockies' ninth-round selection in the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft, out of the University of New Mexico. An infielder in college, the Rockies converted Pacheco to catcher in 2008.
