Rockies LHP Jeff Francis activated from 15-day DL; club designates RHP Jon Garland for assignment

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has activated left-handed pitcher Jeff Francis from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the active roster for Francis, the Rockies designated right-handed pitcher Jon Garland for assignment. Francis is scheduled to start tonight's game vs. San Diego (5:15 p.m. MDT) at Coors Field.
Francis, 32, began the season on the Rockies Opening Day roster and went 2-3 with a 6.00 ERA (36.0 ip, 24 er), 14 walks and 31 strikeouts in eight starts before being placed on the disabled list with a left groin strain. The former first round pick (9th overall in 2002) made one rehab start for Triple-A Colorado Springs on June 6, allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 4.0 innings. Francis is in his ninth Major League season, having pitched for Colorado (2004-10, 2012-13) and Kansas City (2011). He is 69-76 with a 4.89 ERA (1214.2 ip, 660 er) in 213 games/212 starts in the Big Leagues. His 63 career wins and 1,031.2 career innings pitched as a Rockie both rank as the second-most in franchise history.
Garland 33, was on the Rockies Opening Day roster after signing a Major League contract during Spring Training. He made 12 starts for Colorado this season and went 4-6 with a 5.82 ERA (68.0 ip, 44 er) with a 65.8 groundball percentage (121 GB, 63 FB). Garland owns a career mark of 136-125 with a 4.37 ERA (2151.1 ip, 1045 er), 723 walks and 1,156 strikeouts in 365 career games, 342 starts.
The Rockies currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster
