Weeks after appendicitis, CarGo cleared for activity

DENVER -- All-Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has recovered from his emergency appendectomy on Jan. 10 and doctors have cleared him for physical activity, the Rockies announced Thursday.
In addition to removing CarGo's appendix, doctors also repaired a small hernia near his navel. But the appendicitis attack occurred at a time when Gonzalez had been working out consistently and was in good shape, and the Rockies believed all along that the recovery would go smoothly.
Last season, Gonzalez appeared in his second straight All-Star Game and won the Rawlings Gold Glove Award for the third time in four seasons. Gonzalez was slowed during the second half of the season by a strained right middle finger and finished with a .302 batting average, 26 home runs and 70 RBIs.
