Rockies announce minor league staff for 2014 season

Six of Seven Minor League Managers Retained from 2013 Season

The Colorado Rockies announced their Minor League staff for the 2014 season today. The Rockies retained six of their seven field managers from 2013 and have added the role of Offensive Coordinator, filled by Jerry Weinstein.

In addition to the new role that Weinstein will take over as Offensive Coordinator, the Rockies hired Don Sneddon as the High-A Modesto Nuts Manager and Mark Brewer as the Pitching Coach for Single-A Asheville. Additionally, Ron Gideon will be the Development Supervisor for the Double-A Tulsa Drillers and Duane Espy will be the Development Supervisor for the Short Season-A Tri-City Dust Devils, essentially switching spots with each other from the 2013 season.

Weinstein, who spent the previous two seasons as the Major League Catching Coach, returns to the Rockies Player Development Department, where he spent five seasons (2007-2011) as the Manager of the Modesto Nuts. In his current role, Weinstein will be tasked with working with the Rockies staff at every level of the Minor League system on the execution of the Rockies offensive standards.

Sneddon joins the Rockies organization after spending the past 33 seasons (1980-2013) as the Head Baseball Coach at Santa Ana College in Santa Ana, CA. At Santa Ana College, Sneddon won over 1,000 games, won 13 Orange Empire Conference Championships, made 24 consecutive state playoff appearances and won three California State Championships. He owns the most wins in California Community College baseball history and was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Baseball Team coaching staff. In addition to his duties of Head Coach, Sneddon was also the Santa Ana College Athletic Director from 1998-2001 and a Professor of Exercise Science during his coaching tenure.

Brewer has over 20 years of professional experience as a Pitching Coach in Major League organizations, and comes to Colorado after most recently serving as the Pitching Coach for Triple-A Buffalo in the New York Mets organization. Overall, Brewer has been a pitching coach in the player development systems for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1992-99, 2000-04), Texas Rangers (1999-2000), Kansas City Royals (2004-05), Pittsburgh Pirates (2008-09) and the Mets (2005-08, 2009-2012). Brewer also has over 10 years of experience as a pitching coach in the Latin America Winter Leagues (2003-2013).
