SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants endured mixed success with video reviews Saturday, successfully challenging a first-inning call that halted a Colorado rally before their last-ditch hopes for their own rally were dashed in the ninth inning.
Colorado's 5-4 victory ended with Angel Pagan grounding into a double play. But it didn't seem like one as he stood on first base during the review of his sprint to first base, where umpire Mike Muchlinski called him out. Umpires ultimately ruled that the play would stand as called.
"You have to respect that," Pagan graciously said.
With two outs in the first inning and runners on first and second base, Colorado's Josh Rutledge hit a grounder to Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who stayed with a tricky hop as the ball hit the inner edge of the infield grass. Muchlinski ruled Rutledge safe, prompting Giants manager Bruce Bochy to request a review. Muchlinski's decision was overturned, ending the inning.
