Gomez out at second after Rockies challenge

MILWAUKEE -- Rockies manager Walt Weiss won a challenge in the eighth inning of Friday night's 3-2 Brewers win that took runner Carlos Gomez off the basepaths.

With Milwaukee leading, 2-1, Gomez hit a single and attempted to steal second base during Aramis Ramirez's at-bat. Gomez slid through the bag after second baseman Josh Rutledge received the throw from catcher Michael McKenry and was initially called safe.

After a review of 1 minute, 40 seconds, the call was overturned, making Gomez the first out of the inning. It appeared that Gomez was tagged out once he came off the base because of how hard he slid through it.

Gomez appeared to be dazed after a hard collision with Rutledge's leg during the play, but he stayed in the game, and after the game manager Ron Roenicke said Gomez was fine.

"He may have hit his chin on the ground, too," Roenicke said. "He's OK."
