DENVER -- When you've fallen behind in the last moments of a campaign, it's time to party. That's where the Rockies and first baseman Justin Morneau are at this point of the All-Star Game Final Vote Sponsored by Experian.
Word broke Wednesday afternoon that Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo had overtaken Morneau in fan voting for the final National League roster spot for Tuesday night's All-Star Game at Target Field in Minneapolis. Morneau had been in the lead as of the first two updates. With the Rockies off today, the campaign has called for a party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. MT in Denver at the Tavern Downtown, 1949 Market St.
The shindig runs all the way up to the moment voting ends and runs during a prime tweeting time. (Instructions below.)
Workers in Lower Downtown -- LoDo, as the locals know it -- can spend their lunch periods taking advantage of prizes and food and drink specials. And, of course, they'll get to #VoteMorneau.
Of course, the Rockies and their revelry-making friends will have Cleveland on their minds, as the Rockies push the vote for Indians right-handed pitcher Corey Kluber unter the hashtag #ClevelandRox.
The Twins are taking time out from preparing to host the All-Star Game to push for Morneau, who spent most of this career with the Twins. The host team would love a homecoming, and are offering a unique Joe Mauer /Morneau double bobble for a lucky retweeter.
Rockies teammate Michael Cuddyer, who played alongside Morneau with the Twins, threw in his own offer:
To encourage everyone to #VoteMorneau, I have a special prize for the person who votes the most! Details tomorrow!- Michael Cuddyer (@mcuddy3) July 9, 2014
And what's a campaign that doesn't cast aspersions on the other candidates. Rockies left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson slung one late Wednesday afternoon.
I heard all the other candidates hate puppies...therefore #VoteMorneau- Brett Anderson (@BAnderson_30) July 9, 2014
Here's the official info, which all fans who have followed the race should know by heart by now:
