Scott Hairston's home run in the top of the 13th inning left the Padres just three outs away from the postseason, but all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman could not seal the deal against the Rockies. Adrian Gonzalez also delivered a timely long ball, belting a grand slam in the the loss.

Jamey Carroll's sacrifice fly in the 13th inning capped a three-run rally as the Rockies shocked the Padres to win the National League Wild Card. Colorado added a memorable chapter to its frantic finish, in which it won 14 of its last 15 games to reach the postseason for the first time since 1995.
